High-speed atomic force microscopy reveals dynamics of nucleosomes that lack histone tails

  • Mikihiro Shibata’s group (WPI-NanoLSI, Kanazawa Univ.), in collaboration with Hitoshi Kurumizaka’s group (IQB, The Univ. of Tokyo), succeeded in visualization of nucleosomes without histone tails using high-speed atomic force microscopy.
  • Nucleosomes lacking H2B or H3 tails displayed enhanced DNA unwrapping from the histone core.
  • Nucleosomes lacking H2B or H3 tails also showed a higher frequency of nucleosome sliding compared with wild-type nucleosomes.
