Establishment of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived hepatobiliary organoid with bile duct for pharmaceutical research use

National Center for Global Health and Medicine
The University of Tokyo
  • We have succeeded in the generation of human hepatobiliary organoids (hHBOs), which can reproduce the bile flow from hepatocyte into bile duct via bile canaliculi.
  • The hHBO could recapitulate pathological responses such as cholestasis and cytotoxicity to troglitazone like the human liver.
  • The hHBO would be a novel in vitro platform system for pharmaceutical research use.
