Recent development of fluorescent proteins and light microscopes have made the microscopy imaging techniques essential for laboratory skills for the study of biosciences. We started TOBIC (University of Tokyo IQB Olympus imaging center) in collaboration with Olympus corporation to support microscopy imaging in the Institute for Quantitative Biosciences. Olympus provides with state-of-the-art multi-photon, confocal and fluorescent microscopes in TOBIC.

These microscopes are well maintained by the Olympus engineering staffs, replaced with the latest models when applicable, and of which software is updated accordingly. Those lenses are also replaced regularly with the latest high resolution ones. Scientists in the institute are allowed to use these microscopes freely after training by the Olympus instructors. We give lectures and offer live samples in the seminar in TOBIC organized by Olympus, and thus facilitate collaboration with Olympus.
